Executive Orders
On Saturday, President Donald Trump signed a series of executive actions. The orders are expected to face immediate legal challenges as the power to pay for these items rests with Congress. This makes it unclear when and if aid will reach the unemployed. The four orders address the following:
- Payroll tax deferral for those making less than $104,000 from September 1st to December 31st 2020.
- Extend Federal Unemployment Benefit in the amount of $400 for the remainder of the year.
- Asks HHS Secretary and CDC Prevention Director to consider whether an eviction ban is necessary.
- Waiver of all interest on Federal held student loans through the end of the year with a payment deferral until December 31st, 2020.
